So what if Google is hiding referral search data?
SEOs are up in arms over Google’s new policy of not passing along the search query to website analytics programs when performed by a logged-in user.
Considering how much data Google has on me, from Google+ (my real name and phone number) to Google Checkout (my credit card information) to Google Docs and My Client Center in AdWords (my clients’ information) to … well, you get it.
Basically, Google is privy to many details of my life.
So as a person who likes to keep at least a semblance of privacy, maybe it’s not such a bad thing that Google has elected to help me keep my stuff private.
But as a search marketer, I have to ask Google: Why not just add a check box and leave it up to the user whether to let their search referral data pass to the website they’re visiting? I’m betting that a loyalty pattern will emerge, with most people opting in to check the box!
